ACTING IN ENGLISH INTRODUCTION

The “Acting In English” program, as conceived by James Longshore, is a comprehensive course in not just accent and performance technique, but also in the business and marketing side of being a professional actor. You will learn not just to think, speak, and act in English, you will learn how to present yourself just as a professional American actor does. The class will include sessions on film acting, pronunciation and accent work, improvisation, script breakdown, auditions, marketing and image. There will be exercises, study of the alphabet, discussion, performance, and simulated situations.
This class will require a deep level of commitment, as much as you would give to your university courses. There will be homework, practice, assignments, reading, and even report cards. That’s right, report cards. James will correct you when you say something wrong. But it is also a safe environment, where we will have patience, and encourage you to speak in English and find the words you are looking for. You should not be afraid to make mistakes in the pursuit of improving your acting and English skills. Your vocabulary will improve. Your confidence will improve. And confidence is the key to successful auditions!
We will engage in discussion about the history of the film industry, the elements of acting, the requirements of a professional film actor, the difference between theatre and film, and all in English, making you more comfortable with the language. We will improvise, which will force you to think quickly in English and also probably produce some hilarious results! We will engage in simulated exercises for auditions and meetings with agents and casting, making you prepared for these opportunities. Each student will also be assigned a scene from a quality film, which we will rehearse and ultimately perform, after using the text to learn script breakdown, and perform other helpful exercises.
Participation in this program will produce results that will lead to more success in your career as an actor. It will also be fun and exciting. Apply now! We look forward to growing with you.

SCREENWRITING IN ENGLISH

As our pilot class of Screenwriting is wrapping up in October we are very pleased to announce that it has been a prolific success. Acting in English and Vigilante Films has developed another unique class where you learn the art of screenwriting and receive complete guidance and support in writing your own script in 5 weeks.

PRIVATE LESSONS

James Longshore offers three focuses of study in the private lessons:

  • VOCAL AND DICTION TRAINING AND ACCENT REDUCTION

  • BASIC AND ADVANCED ACTING TECHNIQUES

  • CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND THE BUSINESS OF BEING AN ACTOR

Of course, the lessons can also be a combination of these focuses. Or, if there is something more specific you would like to learn, Mr. Longshore will speak with you about it and develop a personalized approach.

OTHER CLASSES

Are you ready to take the Acting In English Intensive Challenge? The “Acting In English: Intensive” course is all about discipline, commitment, studying, and exercises. After all, as Coach James Longshore says, “In order to act, you must act!” In the Intensive program, we do, we don’t talk.

Students learn Sanford Meisner techniques, Lee Strasberg exercises, and all about the philosophies of such luminaries as Uta Hagen and Stella Adler. It’s like the Actors Studio itself has come to Romania! Students receive a full training in diction and the rhythm of the English Language, including techniques developed by the world renowned Kristin Linklater school. Students will also be taught the essential art of screenplay analysis and film script breakdown, as well as film acting techniques and exercises rarely explored in this country. And comedy techniques, Ha-Ha!

All this under the expert instruction of Coach James Longshore, whose 28+ years of experience and training as an actor/writer/director/producer will guide you in the direction you want to go! There will be reading material, exams, and finally assigned scenes from classic American movies so you can put your training to the test, and pass the Acting In English Intensive Challenge!

This will all take place over 5 weeks, totaling 40 Hours of hard work and rewards. Classes are twice a week from 7 pm to 11 pm. After the classes end there is a week of rehearsals followed by a showcase with scenes from classic American movies.
